Starting from January 11, 2025, Air Serbia will commence a direct service between Belgrade and Shanghai (Shanghai Pudong Airport - PVG) in the People's Republic of China. The Serbian national airline will operate flights on this route twice a week during the upcoming winter season, with flights from Belgrade to Shanghai on Tuesdays and Saturdays, while return flights from Shanghai to Belgrade will take place on Wednesdays and Sundays. Flights between Belgrade and Shanghai will also be operated during the next summer season, which begins on March 30, 2025. Tickets are already on sale, the Serbian national airline announced.

– Just nine days ago, on Monday September 30, 2024, we launched scheduled flights between Belgrade and Guangzhou. This is our second destination in the People's Republic of China, after Tianjin, which was added to our network on December 9, 2022. With the introduction of direct flights to Shanghai on January 11, 2025, along with the visa-free regime and the recently signed free trade agreement, we are contributing to the further strengthening of economic relations, business, tourism, and cultural ties between Serbia and China. We are confident that our scheduled flights between the capital of Serbia and Shanghai will facilitate faster business and tourism travel, as well as more efficient exchange of goods and services between our two traditionally friendly countries – said Jiri Marek, CEO of Air Serbia.

Shanghai is located in eastern China on the coast of the East China Sea, at approximately equal distances from Beijing in the north and Guangzhou in the south. It is one of the world's largest ports and the main industrial and commercial center in the People's Republic of China. The city and municipality of Shanghai are the most populous urban areas in China. According to official data, in 2023, around 24 million people lived in the administrative area of the Shanghai municipality, Air Serbia says in its press release.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport (IATA code: PVG, ICAO code: ZSPD) is located about 30 kilometers east of downtown Shanghai. It covers 40 square kilometers along the coast in eastern Pudong and is a major air hub for East Asia. In 2023 alone, the airport served over 54 million passengers.

With the introduction of flights to Shanghai, Air Serbia will provide passengers with good connections from eastern China, via Belgrade, to Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Ljubljana, Milan, Rome, Frankfurt, Paris, Berlin, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Podgorica, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Krakow, Oslo, Bologna, Venice, Zurich, and other cities in its network.
