Two Chinese companies which operate in Serbia – Shandong and China Railway International Company (CRIC) have announced, in a conversation with the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, participation in new projects in Serbia.

CRIC will thereby be hired for the reconstruction of the Pancevo-Subotica railroad, whereas representatives of Shandong have notified minister Vesic that they are interested in taking part in the project of the construction of the Kraljevo-Novi Pazar fast route, whose designing is in progress, the competent ministry announced.

Following the meeting, Vesic told the press that these two Chinese companies had shown the best performance in Serbia up till that point and expressed his satisfaction over the interest in new projects in the country.

He reminded that CRIC had been hired for the construction of the fast railroad section from Novi Sad to Subotica, to be opened to traffic on November 25.

– I believe that, today, we have found a solution for the financing of the project of the reconstruction of the railroad from Pancevo to Subotica. They will fit within the limitations we have, considering that our budget is under control by the IMF and that it is known exactly how much of a deficit we can afford – pointed out minister Vesic.

He expressed the expectation that, in the next month to a month and a half, the agreement for the reconstruction of that railroad, 200 kilometers long, with a 32-km section toward Kikinda and the Romanian border, would be signed as well.

That railroad, as he added, will finally be modernized and electrified and reconstructed for a speed of up to 120 kilometers per hour.

When it comes to Shandong, the minister reminded that it was hired for the construction of road infrastructure in Serbia – on the Danube Corridor, to be finished in September 2025, nine months before the deadline, and for the construction of the Belgrade-Zrenjanin-Novi Sad fast route.

According to Vesic, the company is now getting ready to sign the memorandum approved by the Government of Serbia – for the construction of a pedestrian-cycling bridge in Novi Sad and for the second phase of the reconstruction of the Nis Constantine the Great Airport.

– The old building of the Nis Airport is to be demolished, a new air traffic control tower is to be built, the runway is to be expanded, new aircraft parking spaces are to be made and that airport will be able to take in a million passengers, whereby Nis is becoming a true region airport, which is the goal – said Vesic.

He also told the press that the Shandong representatives had told him that they would make a bid for the construction of the Kraljevo-Novi Pazar fast route, to be ready for contracting in mid-2025.

He also said that Shandong would take part in the tender that the state would open for the installation of solar panels along highways.

– In China, Shandong manages over 9,000 kilometers of highways, they have solar panels alongside them, they produce electricity… We will open the tender for the installation of solar panels, through a public-private partnership, we are now preparing the project for it. Shandong will be one of the companies, we will see who makes the best bid, but they certainly have big experience when it comes to solar panels – said Vesic.
