Telekom notifies Macedonian anti-monopoly commission that it is buying Mondo

All doubt is gone now – Telekom Srbija is unequivocally planning to buy Mondo INC, owned by Igor Zezelj, reports N1. The plan has been presented to the Macedonian anti-monopoly commission, from which Telekom has to get a permit for this purchase, because it also owns a company which operates in the market of North Macedonia. Mondo INC, to remind, publishes the Kurir daily among other publications.

The Serbian state teleoperator, at the end of July, submitted to the Macedonian Commission for Protection of Competition the report on concentration regarding “the acquisition of individual control by Telekom Srbija over the company Mondo INC, 8 Vlajkoviceva Street, Belgrade.”

The Macedonian Commission reminds in its announcement that Telekom Srbija is an operator for electronic communication services and networks, registered for cable communications, “and of the services it provides, it highlights the services of landline and mobile telephony, internet and multimedia services in the territory of the Republic of Serbia.”

– Telekom has one related legal entity in the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia – Preduzece za trgovinu i usluge MTEL DOOEL Skoplje, registered for the activity of wire telecommunications, that is, the provision of the following services: public radio-communications network, broadband internet access, inter-operator services, publicly available telephony services on the public mobile communications network, TV program broadcast, satellite services – the Commission says.

About Mondo INC, they say that it is a registered provider of media services, “which produces and distributes media content through three different channels (TV, printed newspapers and digital web pages),” and it also provides advertising and internet portal management services.

Mondo INC has no related legal entities in the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Commission has determined.

This ownership concentration will pertain to the market for the production and broadcasting of TV program in the territory of North Macedonia, as per the proposition of Telekom as the applicant.

Based on previous inspection, the Commission determined that said concentration could be subject to the Law on Protection of Competition and invited everybody interested to submit comments and opinions about this concentration – the deadline for which expired in August.
