The minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, talked today to the U.S. ambassador to Serbia, Christopher Hill, about the cooperation of the two countries in the field of energy.

They agreed that the agreement on the strategic cooperation between the governments of Serbia and the U.S.A. in the field of energy, to be signed soon in Wahington D.C, was an important step in improving bilateral cooperation, with that sector taking an increasingly important place within it, as reported on the website of the Government of Serbia.

Djedovic Handanovic pointed out that the U.S.A. had been one of the biggest investors in Serbia in the preceding decade as well and expressed her conviction that the agreement would open the door to new investments in the field of energy, thereby contributing to a greater energy security and a sustainable transition toward clean sources of energy.

She pointed out that Serbia had achieved considerable progress in the preceding two years regarding the attracting of investments through improving the legal framework and the successful implementation of the auctions for the market premiums for renewable energy sources.

According to her, the strategic goal is for each second megawatt-hour to come from RES by 2030, through investments of the public and private sectors.

– One of the projects which will increase the “green” capacities of EPS is the construction of 1 GW of solar power plants, together with battery storage sites, which will be realized with the strategic partner – the consortium led by the South Korean company Hyundai Engineering – the minister said.

Djedovic Handanovic added that the Preliminary Feasibility Study for the RHPP Djerdap 3 was completed and that the technical and economic analyses would show the optimal capacities of the future power plant.

The RHPP Djerdap 3 will be one of the pillars of the energy system in the future, which will enable us to balance the energy from the new solar and wind power plants, while preserving the security and stability of supply, she explained.

The U.S. ambassador said that he was very satisfied with the development of energy projects that involved American company as well and that the agreement that was to be signed in Washington would additionally strengthen the cooperation.
