Trends in interior design are dictated by series and movies - From beige "Heirs" to pink "Barbie"
We present to you several achievements that have had a great impact in this industry in recent years, dictating trends and inspiring viewers to try to move the screen-world into their homes.
"Heirs" - Quiet luxury
The series about the power games in a rich media family brought into focus the trend of quiet luxury, which instead of screaming wealth, whispers billions to its owners. Quiet luxury has moved from the catwalks to home decoration. As in clothing, the trend is manifested here with an emphasis on timeless classic pieces, reduced colors, such as beige and gray, and even decoration in only one tone, which brings out the furniture, materials and textures.
The show`s impact is shown by the fact that after one episode aired, Google searches for floral and botanical wallpaper increased by 120%, while searches for wall panels, such as those seen in protagonist Logan Roy`s study, jumped 130% in just 20 days.
Although the main characters of "Heirs" are multi-millionaires and live and work in buildings worth tens of millions of dollars, the designers claim that the effect of quiet luxury can be achieved with less money if you focus on furniture with clean lines, simplicity, and the slogan "less is more."
"Barbie" - Take me to the pink world
Those who find the monochromatic style of "The Heir" boring, can find inspiration in the movie "Barbie", which does not lack the color pink. During "Barbiemania" last year, search interest for "Barbie pink" in the home and garden category in the US more than quadrupled to a 10-year high, according to Google Trends.
Pinterest searches for "Barbiecore aesthetic room" jumped 1,135% from May 2022 to May 2023. Users searched for a Barbie bathroom and living room, 135% more than before, while searches for a "hot pink nursery" increased by 75%.
The Barbie trend is not only based on the color pink, but also luxurious materials and retro and nostalgic elements. All of this is combined with geometric patterns, and designers often play with kitsch elements.
Although it will not enter the mainstream, designers believe that the desire for a "pink world" can be realized at least in some areas, such as home appliances, or decoration of girls` rooms. On the other hand, many are turning to a toned down version of Barbie with an emphasis on pastel pink, wallpaper with romantic motifs, plush as the main material and a combination with black for a more modern effect.
"Bridgerton" - Glamor and decadence
Another representative of bold aesthetics, the "Bridgerton" series riveted us to the screens with love plots and scandals, but also with lavish designs, beautiful palaces, and extravagance.
"Bridgerton" is set between 1813 and 1827, coinciding with the historical Regency era (1811–1820), a period of change and development in the world of fashion, architecture and style.
The owners of the houses did not value subtlety and sophistication, on the contrary, they were guided by the principle "the more lavish, the better". In the interior, this style is characterized by luxurious, glamorous furniture with decorative elements, heavy curtains, chandeliers, brass finishes, four-poster beds, antique mirrors and damask wallpaper.
When it comes to colors, light shades of champagne, powdery blue, pistachio green, soft pink are dominant, which adorn curtains, wallpapers, upholstery.
If you`re looking to bring elements of this style into your home, designers suggest balancing it with modern design to achieve a look that`s bold, glamorous and elegant. Focus on the walls, decorate them with patterned wallpaper, or effective curtains, then mirrors with ornaments, dramatic chandeliers, golden framed pictures. Subtle vintage details like gold faucets, cabinet handles in the bathrooms are also welcome.
