Vujovic: Business entities obliged to treat waste waters before pouring them into sewer from January 2026

Business entities which generate waste waters in the production process are obliged to treat them before being poured into the public sewer system or the recipient from January 2026, announced the minister of environmental protection of Serbia, Irena Vujovic, and invited them to comply with the adjustment deadline.

Vujovic reminded that the transition period for the corporate sector was proscribed by the Decree on the threshold values of the emission of polluting matters into waters and pointed out that, after the expiration of the deadline, no deviations from the proscribed values would be tolerated.

– According to the deadline set in the Decree, there is a little more time for the business entities which have not yet secured the means of the pre-treatment of waste waters to do so. Everybody’s obligation is to build facilities for the treatment of industrial waste waters, which will be operational by the expiration of the set deadline at the latest. That way, the pre-treatment of waste waters is secured, whereby we are giving a great contribution to the protection of rivers and the protection of the living environment as a whole – she pointed out.

According to the Decree on the threshold values of the emission of polluting matters into waters, in the cases where waste waters are poured into the public sewer, the local self-governments are obliged to sign local acts on the pouring of waste waters, harmonized with the decree.
