Blagoje Paunovic, a professor at the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade, is a candidate for the president of the Fiscal Council of Serbia, it was said today at the session of the Committee for Finance, Budget and Control of Public Spending of the National Assembly of Serbia.

Paunovic has been proposed for the function by the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, who is allowed by law to do so.

The president of the Fiscal Council so far, Pavle Petrovic, served two mandates of six years each and, according to the Law on the Fiscal Council, there were no obstacles for a new mandate to be entrusted to him, but, as the Beta news agency learns, it hasn’t even been offered to him.

The second six-year mandate has also expired for Nikola Altiparmakov, a member of the Fiscal Council, and he has been made candidate for that position again by the Ministry of Finance.

The Committee for Finance has the jurisdiction to only confirm that the candidate propositions have been sent and to check whether the conditions for their election are met, and then to send the propositions for deliberation to the members of the National Assembly of Serbia, who are to make the final decision on the election.

– Blagoje Paunovic is an expert who has, in his long career, in addition to academic work, taken active part in shaping the economic-systemic solutions, working on the preparation of a range of strategic documents and measures of economic policy on national, regional and local levels, whether through direct engagement in the operations of the Government’s organs and bodies, or through the support of international organizations to the Government of Serbia – Vucic said in the explanation of Paunovic’s candidacy.

Between 2002 and 2004, Paunovic was assistant minister for economy and privatization, in charge of the development of entrepreneurship and small and medium enterprises, a member of the Commission for Expert Education of the Ministry of Education and Sport (2001-2004) and a member of the Government’s Commission for the Deregulation of the Economic System.
