The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has stated that, on Friday, July 19, during the visit of the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, to Belgrade, the agreement on understanding on mineral resources will be signed between Serbia and the EU, among other things, pertaining to lithium as well.

In a statement for TV Pink from London, where he is supposed to take part in the European Political Community Summit, Vucic said that four more years were expected to pass until the exploitation of lithium after the signing of the agreement.

– We are talking about how to turn Serbia, much faster than would otherwise be possible, into an extraordinary place for life – said Vucic.

He said that the mining of lithium would be approved “under the condition that full environmental protection be secured” and that his request was that “85% of the (lithium) battery has to be produced in Serbia.”
