Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former U.S. president Donald Trump has presented the project of the hotel which is supposed to be built in the location of the General Staff building to the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, in Belgrade.

As, among other things, said on the Instagram page buducnostsrbijeav, it is a “grandiose hotel in Belgrade which will contribute to our capital city becoming the center of this part of the world”:

– An inspirational exchange of ideas with Jared Kushner, to whom I showed our capital city with pride and presented some of the plans for an even quicker growth. I presented to him a vision of Belgrade as a major world city, whose cosmopolitan spirit has always attracted people from all corners of the world, and Kushner presented to me the project for the grandiose hotel in Belgrade which will contribute to our capital city becoming the center of this part of the world, which will be positioned on the global map as a destination not to be missed and a desirable seat for the biggest corporations, universities and international institutions, but also an inspiration to artists, scientists and, above all, young people from all corners of the world. That is the kind of Belgrade that we want to leave to our future generations.

Let us remind that the new about these construction activities in the center of Belgrade have led to harsh reactions from the public.

In March, Kushner shared on his X and Facebook profiles the render of the project of the luxury complex which is planned in the location of the General Staff building in Belgrade. In May, the agreement on the renovation of the complex of the former Yugoslav Federal Secretariat for National Defense (SSNO) was signed by the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, and the company Affinity Global Development.

At the beginning of June, the conservators of the Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments of the Republic of Serbia and the Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Belgrade decidedly spoke against the removal of the status of an immovable cultural good from the Yugoslav Ministry of Defense (Yugoslav General Staff) building.
