Annually, Belgrade is visited by 1,400,000 foreigners. They find accommodation in one of the 120 hotels. The private accommodation units cannot even be counted. And it’s all occupied most of the time.
– Each event is in fact felt in Belgrade. The consumption grows, the hotels are full and we are very satisfied that the hotels with 5, 4 and even 3 stars are filled out first, and even private accommodation is filled out to a great extent – says Aleksandra Mikata of the Tourism Organization of Belgrade.
She says that Belgrade has around the same number of tourists each month.
– We have managed to reach that level where, each month, each week, each weekend, there are tourists, so that our Belgrade economy would function well – said Mikata.
At one of the most luxurious Belgrade hotels, the crowd at the reception is of the kind rarely seen in hotels with five stars.
– At the moment, this week alone, there is the Building Trade Fair, the European Boxing Championship and some other events that, in general, fill out rooms in hotels. Serbia is doing its job and a very large number of guests is arriving. We are not yet a spent destination and people come to see something new. The preparations for EXPO, which awaits us in 2027, are beginning, so that will bring even more guests – believes the director of the Hotel Hilton, Aleksandar Vasiljevic.
When the economy functions, so does tourism
By 2027, the opening of three superior hotels, or, as the hotel owners say, hotels with five plus stars, is expected.
– When the economy functions, so does tourism and hotels, and what’s interesting is, for example, that the trade unions of Turkish companies are sending workers to Serbia on prize trips, so a considerable number of tourists are now concretely in Serbia, in Belgrade and other destinations – says Georgi Genov, the director of HORES, the Business Association of Hotel and Restaurant Industry of Serbia.
A surge of tourists is expected in mid-May as well, when the world star Rod Stewart is slated to perform in Belgrade, and also in mid-November, when the city is to host a global music attraction, the Dutch waltz king, Andre Rieu.
