Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) had a record profit of RSD 114.3 billion last year, but the company which distributes electricity to the consumers, Elektrodistribucija Srbije (EDS) can’t claim to have been as successful, the Danas daily writes. According to the financial reports published on the website of the Serbian Business Registers Agency (SBRA), EDS recorded a loss of RSD 1 billion, or nearly EUR 9 million. In 2022, the profit of EDS amounted to RSD 250 million, or slightly over EUR 2 million.

EDS, which was extracted from EPS in 2021, delivered 26.3 million megawatt-hours of electrical energy last year, which is a reduction of 1.7% compared to 2022.

At the same time, EDS took over 29.5 million megawatt-hours of electricity. The difference between the taken and the delivered electricity pertains to the coverage of losses in the distribution system. Last year’s losses amounted to 3.2 million megawatt-hours of electricity.

For the sake of comparison, that is more than a half of the annual production of the hydro power plants Djerdap 1 and 2, which, according to the EPS website, produce seven million megawatt-hours of electrical energy annually, the Danas daily writes.

The costs of purchasing electrical energy to cover the losses of EDS were RSD 11.7 billion (close to EUR 100 million) higher in 2023 than in 2022.

In total, EDS paid RSD 38.2 billion (EUR 326 million) to EPS for the lost electricity.
