The Nis multifunctional cultural center with 2,000 spaces to be built in another location after all – Contest for preliminary design opened

(The “old” winning design for the concert hall in Nis) The City of Nis has opened the contest for the preparation of the preliminary design for the new multipurpose cultural facility in Nis. The future multifunctional cultural center is to be built on the cadaster parcels nos. 262/1 and 263/1 in the cadaster municipality Nis-Cele Kula, with a total area of 2.21 ha. This is land in close proximity to Roda Centar in Vizantijski Blvd.

The facility is supposed to feature an entrance multipurpose hall (communication, a space for exhibits and a space for virtual presentations, the necessary sanitary blocks, a wardrobe for the visitors, an information point, a hospitality point), a large multipurpose hall with close to 2,000 spaces with accompanying features, a stage area with all the modern technical possibilities for symphony concerts, theater plays, opera and ballet performances (with an orchestra pit and the necessary rooms for the performers and a rehearsal room) with the possibility of film screenings, with a capacity of 1,000 spaces, with the necessary foyer and a wardrobe for the visitors, and it is necessary to secure good sightlines and good acoustics. There needs to be an orchestra pit for at least 50 musicians, with the possibility of hydraulic leveling.

The future cultural facility should also have a congress (multifunctional) hall with a capacity of close to 600 people, with the accompanying features, a multifunctional hall for close to 150 people (gatherings, chamber stage), up to four group wardrobes and up to 10 individual ones, for all four stages, a space – depot for the storage of stage equipment, a lift for the piano and heavy instruments as per need, as well as an administrative and the technical block.

Within the facility, there should also be a garage and parking area, and smaller accommodation possibilities are possible as well, as is an annex for the faculty of arts.

Landscaping and the development of green areas also needs to be in line with the environment.

No “glass” concert hall?

Let us remind that, in 2019, the construction of a concert hall-multipurpose cultural facility in Nis was announced in Nemanjica Blvd. right next to the Delta Planet shopping center, which was then under construction (the former Nis-Express complex).

The contest for the preliminary design of the new concert hall in Nis was opened once before, and the winning architectural design of the new concert hall in Nis was authored by Aleksandar Slavikovic and Dejan Miletic from Belgrade.
