The construction of the depot in Makisko Polje is to begin by the end of the year, assures the director of the PUC Belgrade Metro and Train, Andreja Mladenovic. So far, in this space, as he says, a million and a half cubic meters of sand and crushed rock has been poured, and the ground has been elevated by two to four meters.

– In that sense, we have prepared an annex to start planning the buildings, rail crossings and the rail track infrastructure. The depot in the Makisko Polje location will have six buildings, and the most important of those facilities will be the future operating center, from which the first and second lines will be controlled. That is, all the trains which will not have drivers and which will be fully automated – Mladenovic says and adds that the French company will secure all the systems, signalization, tracks and trains, and the operator which also manages the subway system in Paris will help prepare the documentation.

– We believe that, in the year when we are to start the negotiations about signing the agreement on the works on the first phase of the first line, early operator help is crucial. We’re talking 16 kilometers with 16 stations – notes Mladenovic.

Also, geological explorations of the ground in the capital of Serbia are in progress. So far, over 600 boreholes have been done, so that two moles, which will do underground works, would be ordered by the end of the year. The machines will be made specially for the boring of tunnels and be around 100 meters long.

The agreement on the services of early operator help on the project of the construction of the Belgrade Subway was signed between the Secretariat for Public Transport of the City of Belgrade, the PUC Belgrade Metro and Train and the French company for public transport management RATP DEV. As pointed out in the past days, this continues the cooperation and early operator support of RATP DEV in the process of designing and optimizing the infrastructure of the subway system in the capital of Serbia. The agreement entails management, the training of the staff to be hired to operate the Belgrade Subway, as well as the preparation of the procedure for management and maintenance, the installation of IT systems, supports, testing, commissioning and test operations. Also, the agreement defines management, maintenance and commercial activities related to the project.

Let us remind that, at the beginning of this year, the minister of finance of Serbia, Sinisa Mali, announced that the construction of the depot in Makis, where the subway trains would be parked in the future, was to begin several weeks later. Before that, at the end of last year, the president of the temporary organ of the City of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, said that the excavations on the route of the first subway line would begin in 2024. At the beginning of December, he pointed out that the construction of the boring machine for the establishment of that line had been commissioned. Previously, in November 2023, Sapic pointed out that, in the second half of 2024, concrete things would become visible regarding the construction of the subway system.
