The agreement was signed in Paris by the minister of finance of Serbia, Sinisa Mali, and the CEO of EDF, Luc Remont, in the presence of the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic.
The memorandum creates the conditions for a strategic partnership with EDF in estimating the potentials for the development of a nuclear civil program in Serbia, with support to the development of experts and the sharing of technical knowledge.
EDF has expressed an interest in cooperation with Elektroprivreda Srbije in the development of new hydro power plants and the revitalization of the existing ones, as well as hydro power plants of regional interest, to the end of securing the energy security of Serbia through the implementation of the best international standards in the fields of the living environment, technology and practice.
The memorandum envisages the possibility of cooperation in developing solutions for the storage of energy, primarily batteries and green hydrogen, and solutions for an efficient use of the produced energy.
France gets around 70% of its electrical energy from nuclear power plants.
Due to the implementation of the moratorium on nuclear energy, Serbia does not have enough experts in that field.
Vucic is on a two-day visit to France, at the invitation of president Emmanuel Macron, and earlier today, he met with representatives of the French company Dassault.
