The Government of Serbia has adopted the decision on forming a work group for the negotiations and realization of the project of the new border crossing Kelebija-Tompa 2.

The task of the work group will be to manage the negotiations between the governments of Serbia and Hungary and to realize the project about the new trace of the border line and the establishment of the border crossing Kelebija-Tompa 2.

The president of the work group is Emese Lalic Urban, the state secretary at the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, and the deputy is Miroslav Alempic, the acting assistant minister of construction, transport and infrastructure.

The work group features another eight members from the Border Police Administration, the Spatial and Urban Planning Agency, the Property Directorate of the Republic of Serbia, the Corridors of Serbia and the Customs Administration.

The president of the work group, as said, can invite representatives of other organs and organizations to participate in the operations of the group.

In May last year, the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, stated that the Hungarian partners planned to build the new Kelebija border crossing, slightly farther away from the existing Kelebija crossing, reachable by the leg of the Y-junction on the Serbian side. Thereby, one border crossing at Kelebija will be meant for passenger traffic, whereas the other one will be meant for cargo traffic.

– When everything is completed, we will have five fully equal crossings, in terms of the number of passengers – said Vesic.
