Prequalification Tender for Contractor for Second and Third Sections of Belgrade-Nis Fast Railroad Announced for May

The minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, has announced that, if all goes well, the construction of the second and third sections of the Belgrade-Nis fast railroad would begin in December.

– In May, we will open the prequalification tender for the contractor, in September, we will call for bids, and the plan will be finished in the meantime as well. We are starting to build a 230 kilometers long railroad, for speeds up to 200 kilometers per hour, and in three and a half years, it will take 100 minutes to travel from Nis to Belgrade – the minister said on TV Happy.

He also said, that, within the EU Western Balkans Plan, worth EUR 6 million, which had been confirmed the day before, one of the priority projects applied by Serbia was the construction of the railroad from Brestovac to Presevo.

– We will have a fast railroad from Nis to Skopje, that is, through the whole Serbia, from Nis to Presevo, and further to Skopje. The Hungarians will complete their part to Budapest, the Greeks are doing 76 kilometers of the railroad from Thessaloniki to Idomeni and renewing the section from Thessaloniki to Athens. What remains to be connected are Skopje and Idomeni, and we will have 1,521 kilometers of the fast railroad, from Budapest to Athens, which will fully change life in the Western Balkans – said minister Vesic.

He also stated that, on that day (Friday, April 5), the bids sent in response to the tender for the selection of the contractor for the construction of the railroad bypass route around Nis would be opened, whereas the works on the project should begin in June.

– We will start building it as soon as June. The bids are being opened today, we will work at a rapid pace in the coming days, in order to select the best bidder. As soon as that process is completed, the construction of the railroad bypass route around Nis begins in June – Vesic said on TV Happy.

The project is important because of the final moving of the railroad from the center of Nis, the minister added.
