(Tim Berners-Li)

It sounds incredible, but the truth is that the first website was launched not so long ago, in 1991, by the "father" of World Wide Web - physicist Tim Berners-Lee.

The web address for the first website is as follows: http://nxoc01.cern.ć/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html. That address is not functional any more, but you can see the copy of that first web page by clicking here.

The page consists of several short definitions of the new protocol - World Wide Web, which Tim Berners-Lee designed while working at CERN.

Berners-Lee still holds an important place in the development of the Internet as the director of the World Wide Web Consortium, which influences Internet technologies and maintains the standards that dictate how the Internet works.
