Serbia to Get Information Security Agency and Artificial Intelligence Development Strategy

This year, Serbia is to get the new Law on Information Security and the Artificial Intelligence Development Strategy, announced the state secretary at the Minister of Information and Telecommunications, Milan Dobrijevic, at the opening of the Serbian National Internet Domain Days. This traditional event, organized by the Serbian National Internet Domain Registry Foundation (RNIDS), is held at the Youth Center of Belgrade under the slogan “The Future is Now”.

According to Dobrijevic, thanks to the new Law on Information Security, which will be adopted by the end of the year, Serbia should get the Information Security Agency. He pointed out that the Artificial Intelligence Development Strategy was being prepared as well and that its adoption was also expected in 2024.

– As a state administration, we are sometimes slower than the economy, but cyber security and artificial intelligence are in the focus of the Government of Serbia – Dobrijevic told the attendees.

He reminded that, by the end of the next year, each village in Serbia would have fast internet thanks to the project of laying down optical cables around 5,000 kilometers long, worth EUR 150 million.

– Thanks to that, 120,000 households in 700 villages will get fast internet, where it otherwise wouldn’t get to, because this is an investment that is not cost-effective for commercial companies – Dobrijevic said and added that the plan was to also upgrade the supercomputer at the Kragujevac Data Center.

Artificial intelligence is in the focus of this year’s Serbian National Internet Domain Days, which, as the director of RNIDS, Dejan Djukic, explained, is topic no. 1 at conferences in the past few months and even years.

– The development of the technology has brought complex threats, so letting it develop uncontrolled is certainly not the best way – Djukic pointed out.

Some of the topics that the conference deals with are the prevention of security risks in small and medium enterprises, the use of the Cyrillic script on the internet and social engineering.
