The Balkan Forum in the capital of Hungary has gathered representatives of governments and experts from the region and the European Union, and the aim is to stimulate cooperation in all spheres of life. Although the energy crisis is behind us, Europe is cautious and the stability of energy supply is a priority for all countries.

A ministerial round table dedicated to energy stability, in which the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, is participating as well, is being held within the Forum in Budapest.

– The topic is energy security, and as we know, the crisis in Ukraine is ongoing. We are stable in terms of energy, we have sufficient gas supplies in our storage sites, in both Banatski Dvor and here in Hungary, but we have to be cautious. Hungary is our strategic partner, especially in energy – said Djedovic Handanovic.

The minister of mining and energy will have a separate talk with the Hungarian minister Peter Szijjarto about the continuation of the cooperation.

We will also talk about the construction of a Serbian-Hungarian oil pipeline of 128 kilometers, whose project price will be around EUR 150 million. We have all the technical and project documentation and we expect the oil pipeline to be completed by 2027 – says minister Djedovic Handanovic.

According to Djedovic Handanovic, Hungary expects a lot from nuclear energy, which Serbia should also consider.

We should think about how to secure the sources of base energy, such as nuclear energy, by 2040. Nowadays there are smaller reactors which are built more quickly and cost less, and we still primarily rely on coal. The tendency in the world is not to invest in gas either in the future, so renewable energy sources need to be found – pointed out the minister of mining and energy.

During the two-day Forum in Budapest, the future of the region will be discussed, and one of the topics will be how to overcome the lack of workforce in central and southeast Europe.
