Construction of State-of-the-Art Laboratory Begins in Torlak

(The look of the future laboratory) The foundation stone for the construction of the new diagnostics and research facility with a third-level biological safety laboratory (BSL-3) within the Institute for Virology, Vaccines and Sera “Torlak” was laid down today.

The new laboratory, as well as the existing diagnostics laboratories of Torlak, which will be located on 4,000 square meters, as announced by the Government of Serbia, will provide a response to all the challenges which pertain to fighting diseases and epidemics and help bring back the citizens’ trust in the institute’s vaccines.

The minister of health of Serbia, Danica Grujicic, who laid the foundation stone together with the minister of defense, Milos Vucevic, the minister of science, technological development and innovations, Jelena Begovic, and the president of the Temporary Organ of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, said that it solidified the foundations of the country’s independence in fighting infectious diseases.

– New diseases and epidemics require new combat weapons. The history of medicine is precisely that – a response to the new challenges and enemies that we face in the form of viruses and other microorganisms – said Grujicic.
