More than Half a Billion Euros for Gruza Corridor and Ring Road around Svilajnac – Here’s When the Tenders for Construction Will Be Published

The procurement of the services of the planning and the execution of the works on the construction of the fast road Kragujevac-Mrcajevci (Gruza Corridor) and the ring road around Svilajnac has been estimated at close to RSD 68.9 billion (around EUR 590 million), according to the Public Procurement Plan of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure for 2024.

The opening of the tender, according to the plan, which was signed by minister Goran Vesic, is planned for the 2nd quarter of this year.

According to the document, the plan is for these traffic routes to be completed by 2028, considering that the value of the procurement is split into various amounts over the next 5 years. An investment of around RSD 3.6 billion (without the VAT) is planned for this year, 11.7 for next one, 16.4 for 2026, 18.7 for 2027 and RSD 18.5 billion for 2028.

As the then construction minister Tomislav Momirovic announced in 2021, the state will secure the funds itself for the construction of the fast route which will connect Kragujevac with the Morava Corridor.

Two years before, the previous minister had stated that the investment would be worth EUR 150 million and that the construction would start in 2020.

Momirovic also said that the Gruza Corridor would be fully built by Serbian companies, but the Government of Serbia later adopted the Decree on the criteria for the selection of a strategic partner for this project and the project of the construction of the north ring road around Kragujevac, whereby it was proscribed that those traffic routes could also be built by foreign companies.

Momirovic’s predecessor Zorana Mihajlovic stated in 2019 that the construction of the Gruza Corridor would be worth EUR 150 million and that the construction would begin in 2020.

On this fast route, 36 km long, the construction of four interchanges is planned, as well as 30 bridge structures, 24 underpasses and overpasses and the construction of the Vuckovica tunnel, 670 m long, not far from Knic.

When it comes to the ring road around Svilajnac, Momirovic announced in 2022 that EUR 60 million would be set aside for that traffic route, which should redirect all transit traffic toward Despotovac.

The construction of the ring road of 12 kilometers is planned in two phases. The first phase is the construction of a part of the ring road of close to 7.5 kilometers, which also envisages the construction of two bridges, across the Velika Morava and the Resava, and the second phase is the construction of a part of around 4.5 kilometers.
