Sweet tidbits on a lake island - Escape from hectic everyday life to ethno village Moravski Konaci near Velika Plana

In the ethno-village Moravski Konaci near Velika Plana, guests visit a homemade cuisine restaurant, walk the trails around a lake, fish, swim in swimming pools, and go to a church, all that on a daily basis. There is also a water mill whose rattle evokes the ambiance of the old times. The village comprises some native old Serbian houses for those who would like to stay and enjoy that ambiance for few days. As people at Moravski Konaci told eKapija, the village will soon get some new contents for guests.

- Construction of another facility within the complex is underway. A meeting hall will be situated on the ground floor, which will be made of stone, while rooms for guests will be located on the overground floor made of wood. Our guests have expressed interest in such service so that we are going to expand the offer to include the congress tourism services. Businessmen from abroad are our frequent guests now and they are usually provided accommodation by their associates from Serbia – Dragana Milanovic, manager of Moravski Konaci, says in an interview for eKapija.

As our interlocutor explains, this 4.5-hectare complex comprises a forest where a zoo will be opened soon. In that area, domestic animals will be able to move freely, while a trail for visitors will be fenced off.

Lake, water mill, pastry shop

Author of the preliminary design of Moravski Konaci is Dragan Kostjercevic, owner of Progres brickyard, part of which is this ethno-village. Moravski Konaci was built in mid-December 2007. It is situated 89 kilometers away from Belgrade, on Corridor 10, and only one kilometer away from the highway E-75, on the main route to Pozarevac.

The site on which the ethno-village is built used to be a deserted land with an illegal landfill. It is now decorated by nine small islands connected by 11 wooden bridges. A pastry shop is situated on one island, a coffee shop on the other, etc.

A well-lit trail for evening walks goes alongside the coast of the lake, and there are also two water mills and an outdoor amphitheater next to that trail. One can also rent a boat at the local marina during summer months. Sport fishermen are here allowed to catch catfish, grass carp and common carp. There is a special peninsula at the lake coast, serving as a summer theater or a stage for musicians.

Native Serbian houses and homemade cuisine

The central area of the ethno-village is dominated by a beautiful homemade cuisine restaurant built of wood, glass and stone. It is big enough for 300 people. This building is shaped as a double cross, and it is situated right next to the lake. Its menu includes old Serbian specialties, grilled and roast meat, hot and freshly baked homemade bread, homemade cheese and milk cream.

The ethno-village comprises 12 luxuriously furnished rooms with 27 beds. Accommodation and services are at the same level as in a hotel. Rooms are furnished to fit in the look of the entire complex and each building represents an authentic facility from Serbia's past. Lodgings are, actually, native old houses, which were carefully disassembled and moved from deserted Serbian villages to be reassembled in this village. Each of these rooms is air-conditioned and has its own bathroom and a TV set.

A parking lot big enough for the vehicles of all visitors is situated at the entrance to the ethno-village. Upon entering the complex, the guests will notice a Serbian orthodox church dedicated to St. Nikola, which is run by the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Sports and recreation facilities

During summer months, sitting by the lake, a refreshing drink and good food at the homemade cuisine restaurant Moravski Konaci, a coffee on one of the islands or a slow ride on a boat, will not be enough for some people. In order to satisfy everybody's needs, the owner of this complex has decided to have a small aqua park built within the ethno-village.

- The aqua park consists of 2 swimming pools for adults and a swimming pool with special attractions for children. A water slide, of which construction is in the pipeline, is expected to draw a big attention of all visitors since it will be 75 meters long. We also plan to have sports courts built in the future period so that our visitors can enjoy a complete offer – says the manager of Moravski Konaci.
