Brnabic: Level 4 and 5 Permits for Driverless Vehicles by 2027

Several months ago, Serbia issued the Level 3 permit for driverless vehicles and it is now preparing to issue the permits for Levels 4 and 5 by 2027, when the country will host the specialized world exhibition EXPO, stated the prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic.

– Serbia has made an effort to amend the law so that it would be at the head of the race in automated driving – Brnabic said at the World Governments Summit in Dubai.

She also pointed out that rail transport was the future of mobility and that Serbia would therefore invest major funds in that means of transport in the new investment cycle.

– By 2027, we want to present all the most modern technology in Serbia as a country which is very competitive in that sense – Brnabic said and added that the country should learn and listen and then see how it could implement innovative models and increase the competitiveness and the quality of life.

The prime minister estimated that Serbia could be a country-winner of the fourth industrial revolution and reminded that the country had introduced programming and coding in elementary schools and specialized informatics education and that it had invested a lot in education, infrastructure for innovations, science and technology works and that excellent results had been achieved.

– Eleven years ago, the annual exports of our ICT sector were only EUR 375 million. Last year, they were EUR 3.6 billion, and our goal is to have 10 billion by the end of 2027 – Brnabic pointed out and added that innovations played a big role in it.

According to her, Serbia has to have a quality internet connection in the whole country and the government therefore invested EUR 500 million in order for all the households in the country to have a fast internet connection by 2025.
