In January, the first tenders for the supervision within the project of the construction of the fast railroad from Belgrade to Nis will be opened, announced the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic.

Vesic said for TV Pink that the next rail project was the construction of the fast railroad Nis-Belgrade, worth EUR 2.7 billion, of which EUR 610 million is a grant from the European Union.

– In January, the first tenders for supervision within that project will be opened, in May or June, the tender for the construction of the second and third sections will be opened, and the tender for the construction of the first section will be opened in December – announced Vesic.

Recently, Nebojsa Surlan, the director general of Serbian Railways Infrastructure, announced that the tenders for the contractors on the sections of the two-track Belgrade-Nis railroad, of 230 kilometers, which would be designed on over 50% of that length for speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour, were expected to be published not long after.

According to him, the project is split into three sections. The first one goes from Resnik to Velika Plana, the second from Velika Plana to Paracin and the third from Paracin to Trupale.

– For sections two and three, we expect the preliminary designs to be completed in June this year, and for section one, to be completed in November – said Surlan.

– For the works on that railroad, Serbian Railways Infrastructure will secure EUR 2.75 billion, through loans from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the EU has provided a grant of EUR 600 million for that project.
