New law on civil procedure essential for efficiency of courts
State Secretary of Justice Slobodan Homen said Thursday that the draft law on civil procedure provided for the introduction of setting a time limit by the court for trial duration.
Homen opened a public debate on the draft version of the law by saying
that such a provision should prevent endless litigation and will
contribute to more efficient court proceedings.
Homen pointed out
that that bill incorporated European directives and added that, during its development, the
working group reviewed the laws in the region and in some EU countries such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
He
said that the new Law on civil procedure and the Law on criminal
procedure would be crucial for the efficiency of court proceedings.
Homen announced that the bill should be before the Serbian MPs in September.
He said that trials would involve typically a single judge, and a council only in exceptional cases.
This act will also introduce modern technology in courts – it will be possible to submit petition requests electronically, and instead of keeping records there will be audio and video recording of trials, Homen said.
