Hotel Slavija to Be Either Reconstructed or Demolished – First Works on Building to Start This Year

Hotel Slavija is owned by the company Matijevic. Zoran Matijevic, a co-owner of Mat Real Estate, says for the N1 portal that Slavija Lux will be renovated, whereas the fate of Slavija 1 and Slavija 2, that is, the tower, will depend on the experts’ estimate – both the demolition and the construction of a new one, if the statics and the structure can’t handle the new standards, are possible.

– When it comes to the further fate of the hotel, the plans are as follows: Slavija Lux is to remain a hotel without a doubt and it will be renovated. The works are to start this year already. Slavija 1 and Slavija 2, that is, the tower facility, which is for the most part in Makenzijeva Street, will be either renovated or a new one will be built, depending on what the construction experts say – Matijevic says for the N1 portal.

The tower, he adds, is in a very bad condition “and does not meet the standards which apply to hotels nowadays.”

– So, the decision about that part of the hotel will be made subsequently, when all the possibilities are examined – Matijevic says.

When asked to clarify whether that means that that part of the hotel (the tower) is to be demolished if the experts say that it can’t be renovated, the new owner confirms.

– If the statics and the structure can handle the new standards – the old building remains and will be renovated – explained Matijevic.
