London Airport (LCY) had a problem with poor indoor air quality for years due to its position in the urban area and the nearby sugar factory. Belgrade-based air quality experts Marquis Intelligence have led the airport's indoor air purification projects since 2015, contributing to LCY being named the UK's best airport for 2023.

How was the problem of poor air quality at London City Airport LCY solved?

The passenger experience includes every journey segment, from inspiration to booking and feedback. Air quality has a crucial impact on service perception. London City Airport, located on the famous London Docks, has specifics that have caused problems with air quality.

One of them is that the planes park directly next to the airport buildings, so by opening the doors for the entry and exit of passengers, the exhaust gases are blown instantly into the airport buildings. The immediate proximity of roads and sugar factories, along with the emission of particles and unpleasant odors, also pollutes the air drawn into the airport buildings through the central ventilation systems.

Air quality affects 75% of environmental factors.

So how come London City Airport has been named the UK's best airport in the customer experience category, you ask?

Marquis Intelligence from Belgrade successfully solved those challenges in collaboration with Serbian scientists.

During the professional presentation to the technical management of LCY in London, air quality experts from Marquis Intelligence, Gordana Blagic, and Vladimir Janackovic, presented all the possibilities for improving air quality in the existing airport ventilation systems.

Among other things, the idea of solving the problem with static electricity, which LCY was facing, was presented. It was not uncommon for customs officers to comment on "jumping sparks" from parts of the conveyor belts when inspecting passengers' luggage.

Marquis Intelligence has solved the problem of static electricity build-up at London City Airport while improving air quality.

And that's how it all started. The innovative solution of Marquis Intelligence using reliable and high-quality equipment from the decades-long partner Bioclimatic GmbH from Germany proved very effective.

The first installation was with the reworking of the air conditioning chamber (AHU) on the central ventilation system for the customs area in the Main Terminal Building. The problem of static electricity build-up has been solved.

Thus, the doors of London City Airport were opened wide for continued cooperation. Two more installations immediately followed, and air quality was improved in the restaurant and shop area of the main terminal building.

At the request of LCY, experts from Marquis Intelligence were also involved in the design phase of the airport expansion.

Thus, since a few years ago, design solutions have been applied to new and reconstructed airport buildings, such as the TIF and GIF buildings (immigration section).

The most modern technological solution for air purification from the Belgrade firm Marquis Intelligence for optimal safety, well-being, and comfort of passengers at London City Airport.

The applied state-of-the-art technological solution for air purification complies with the highest health standards, building regulations, and sound engineering practices. Still, it is also very effective in preventing the transmission of COVID-19 and other viral infections.

As well as pioneering the application of Bioclimatic GmbH's DBD technology at London City Airport, Marquis Intelligence maintains the already installed equipment, ensuring its total efficiency.
