Srbijagas and Gazprom have commenced negotiations in Belgrade about the construction of a gas storage site in Vojvodina, the Vecernji Novosti daily has learned. As the daily writes, if the Russian partners are not interested in these projects, there is a possibility of Srbijagas building those capacities with the state’s help.

The plan is for the “Banatski Dvor” storage site, which can now store 450 million cubic meters of gas, to be expanded to the neighboring field of Cestereg, which would enable Serbia to store 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas there.

The construction of the “Srpski Itebej” storage site is planned as well, but according to Novosti, gas exploitation has not been finished in that field, so that issue needs to be resolved with the partners from Russia.

There should be no problems with the “Tilva” storage site, whose construction is also planned, as that site has been emptied out.

Gazprom is the majority owner of the “Banatski Dvor” storage site, and it also has the right to use the locations “Itebej” and “Tilva”, according to the agreement of Serbia and Russia from 2008, which included the sale of NIS to that Russian company.

Novosti writes that, with the new expanded and built capacities, Serbia would be able to store 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas, and the construction would cost EUR 450 million.
