The Italian company Antonio Carraro, which produces tractors for fruit farming, is interested in investing in Sremska Mitrovica.

Uros Veselinovic, the mayor’s assistant for investments and local economic development, said that they were very close to reaching an agreement.

– We are very close to reaching an agreement about having one such investor, which already operates in Spain, Turkey and Australia, invest in our industrial zone, and the negotiations have been going on since September. With a little effort on our part and a little will on theirs, they would open their facility in our Industrial Zone “Jezero”, for which the Detailed Regulation Plan was adopted in 2018. Some minor problems regarding the realization of that plan would be solved with the changes that are on the agenda of the very next session of the City Assembly, scheduled for December 21, by which we will narrow down the scope of the industrial zone and prepare the parcels for the new investor, but also for other interested investors. Let me remind you that we also have a prepared plan and project of the Industrial Zone North, but there’s only a bare field there for now, and investors usually want to see something at the site when they arrive here, and that is certainly the Industrial Zone “Jezero”. In the past period, we have opened Belt there, Tara Filters has announced its operations for next year, for the spring, and this investment is planned precisely behind those factories.

The new factory, according to him, will produce around 15 types of tractors, and the plan is to have a production and showroom facility, and the investment is worth EUR 8.8 million.

– They have already opened accounts in commercial banks, they have already registered here, so the first steps have been made, and now it’s up to us to solve the property-legal relations, and as for the utilities in that part, there are already water and sewer installations and gas installations. According to their business plan, 50 to 100 workers would be employed here initially – Veselinovic added.
