From today, the Republic of Serbia is the owner of 100% of the shares of the airline company Air Serbia, stated the minister of finance of Serbia, Sinisa Mali. The state acquired the ownership share from Etihad Airways, which had been a co-owner of Air Serbia since 2013, RTS reports.

As specified, an agreement was signed for the Republic of Serbia to take over the remaining 16.42% shares of Air Serbia from Etihad Airways, whereby the state acquired full ownership of the company.

Mali said that the “necessary paperwork” would be finished that day and thanked Etihad Airways.

– Since 2013, they have been partners and co-owners of Air Serbia. Due to their business decisions, they are exiting Air Serbia. It is up to us to continue developing that company – Mali said.

He also pointed out that Air Serbia was the biggest airline companies in the region.

– From a bankrupt company, we have created a leader which now flies to four continents, to a large number of countries, and we have set an example for how you can contribute to the economic development of a country through a successful airline company – Mali said.

Air Serbia was formed in 2013, when Etihad Airways acquired 49% of what was until then Jat Airways.
