The reconstruction of the Belotinac-Brestovac section, within the second phase of the modernization of the Nis-Brestovac railroad, began two months ago. The works on the railroad section between Belotinac and Doljevac began on September 5, 2023.

The one-track electrified section Nis-Brestovac is part of the Nis-Presevo-state border with North Macedonia railroad, on the international rail Corridor 10. The modernization and rehabilitation of the railroad is realized along the existing route.

The total length of the Nis-Brestovac railroad covered by this project is 22.8 kilometers. The project envisages a full overhaul and modernization of the substructure and superstructure of the railroad with facilities on that part of the railroad, as well as the modernization of substations and electrotechnical and electrical energy facilities, according to the website of the Serbian Railways Infrastructure company.

The value of the agreement is EUR 59,850,000, of which slightly over EUR 44 million has been secured from the grants from the IPA funds, and the rest from the budget of the Republic of Serbia.

The contractor on the modernization and reconstruction of the Nis-Brestovac railroad is the consortium of the Bulgarian companies Trace Group Holding and Balkantel.

So far, a total of around 15.8 kilometers of the railroad has been done.

Within the modernization of the Belotinac-Brestovac railroad, six new concrete bridges will be built, instead of the old steel ones, which have already been removed from the route section.

The completion of the modernization of the Nis-Brestovac railroad is planned for December 2024. After the reconstruction, it will be equipped for speeds up to 120 km/h.

Due to the reconstruction of the railroad, passenger rail traffic between Nis and Presevo is completely suspended, and cargo rail transport is carried out under the conditions of temporary halts.
