Jovanovic: Exports of ICT Sector of EUR 3.8 Billion Expected This Year

The estimates are that, at the end of this year, the exports of the sector of information-communications technologies of Serbia will amount to close to EUR 3.8 billion, stated the minister of information and telecommunications of Serbia, Mihailo Jovanovic.

At the opening of the tenth BIZIT conference, Jovanovic emphasized that the estimates of the exports for 2023 were based on the information that, in the first eight months, the exports of the ICT sector had been 34.7% higher compared to the same period in 2022.

The ICT sector has become our fastest growing and, at the same time, biggest exporting sector, with last year’s record exports of EUR 2.7 billion, he said and cited the data that the number of the employees was growing despite the crisis and that it exceeded 107,000 in the whole sector.

– In 2017, the government recognized the 4th industrial revolution as a development opportunity, which Serbia hasn’t missed. We have oriented ourselves toward the knowledge economy, because knowledge and creativity are our most powerful resource – the minister assessed and added that the state had recognized the ICT sector as the driving engine of the development of the economy, but also of modern Serbia as a whole.

– In 2017, we set digitization and education as our highest priorities. In only six years, all-encompassing, thorough reforms have been carried out, and our once predominantly work-intensive economy has been transformed into an economy based on knowledge and innovations – Jovanovic said.
