The HPP Potpec on the Lim will get a fourth generator, with a power of 12.7 megawatts, which will increase the production of electricity by around 15.2 gigawatt-hours a year. The new generator will be located in the new power house, 117 meters downstream from the dam. The water will arrive at the turbine by a tunnel with a diameter of 3.2 meters, set at a depth of 19 meters.

HPP Potpec, within the Lim HPPs system, with three generators with a power of 54 megawatts, was built in 1967, on the right bank of the Lim, around five kilometers upstream from Priboj. The concrete gravitational dam is 46 meters tall, with an accumulation of around 27.5 million cubic meters of water.

This project has been mentioned for over three decades, whether in announcements by the heads of EPS and state representatives or in response to journalists’ questions. The use of the waters of the Lim, which, at greater flows, in the times when it rains or the snow melts, flows over the dam, has been emphasized. Now it is pointed out that the 4th generator should be connected to the power line network before the revitalization of the generators starts, thereby replacing the production unit that is worked on by the repairmen and engineers at any given moment.

According to the announcements of EPS and media reports, the tendering documentation is being harmonized for this project in line with the procedures of the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The documentation is expected to be finished by the end of this year, and the tender for the construction of the fourth generator, with the revitalization of the existing three, will be opened in the second quarter of 2024.

The effect of erosion on the lake

The Lim Lake is affected by erosion and neglect. The tributaries and the Lim bring large amounts of eroded sediments to the lake, which are washed out from the steep terrains of the drainage basin, and soil and the building materials brought to the waterlines by companies and individuals are also piling up.
