The Autonomous Trade Union of the Belgrade Bus Station (Beogradska autobuska stanica – BAS) will organize a one-hour warning strike today at noon, in order to draw attention to the issue that the moving of the main bus station from the city center to New Belgrade entails. As the trade union says, the station will be moved as soon as the first phase is completed, which will lead to 300 to 400 employees becoming surplus workers and being laid off.

Sreten Maksic of the Autonomous Trade Union of BAS said for N1 that the works on the construction of the new main bus station, to be located in New Belgrade, had been accelerated and that the first phase would be over not long after. He estimates that it would happen by the election and that the station would be moved then.

– The first phase entails the construction of a station platform, a canopy and an annex for the purchase of tickets. Moving to that kind of a station, an unfinished station, which will not have hospitality and commercial features until the station building is finished, will lead to more than 300 employees losing their jobs – Maksic points out.
