Minister: Gas Interconnector Serbia-Bulgaria to Be Completed in Early November, Gas to Start Flowing by Year-End

The construction of the gas interconnection Serbia-Bulgaria will be completed in the first weeks of November, the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, announced while taking a tour of the site, as announced on the website of the Government of Serbia.

After visiting the gas metering and regulation station in Trupale near Nis and the working meeting with the contractors and other participants in the project, Djedovic Handanovic said that close to 98% of the works had been do up till then and that they were in the final phase.

According to her, upon the completion of this gas interconnection, which is expected in the first two weeks on November, the obtaining of the necessary permits will start so as to ensure that the gas pipeline is operational in the coming weeks.

She said that she expected the natural gas supply by this interconnector to start by the end of the year.

The minister emphasized that the gas interconnector Serbia-Bulgaria was a project of strategic importance for Serbia in terms of the diversification of the gas supply sources.

According to her, with this interconnection, in addition to the Russian gas, which is an important and stable source of supply, Serbia will also have the ability to connect with gas from Azerbaijan and the LNG terminal in Greece through Bulgaria.

Djedovic Handanovic said that negotiations with a company from Azerbaijan were in progress and that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the ministries of energy of Serbia and Azerbaijan, as well as the commercial agreement between the Azerbaijani supplier and the PE Srbijagas, was expected by the end of November.
