Inter-kop opens daughter company in Kazakhstan - Significant progress made by construction company after two decades of operations
(Inter-kop's headquarters in Sabac)
The construction company Inter-kop opened a daughter company in Kazakhstan in May 2011 in order to expand its operations to the territory of that Asian country. In 2011, when it celebrates its 20th birthday, the Sabac-based company works on Corridor 10, construction of a bridge across the Sava near Obrenovac, regulation of the Trnava river, construction of the main postal center in Zemun, Mirijevski boulevard in Belgrade, emergency housing in New Belgrade and Vozdovac, etc.
- This year we are carrying out big works on the territory of our country. The time will come when all large construction works in the country will have been completed and construction companies will not have anything to do any more, which is now happening in Slovenia and Croatia. We are thinking in advance and getting ready for foreign markets. In the search for new jobs, we have opened our branch office in Kazakhstan. It is a company that is registered as local and will be implementing the projects financed from the national budget of Kazakhstan. We have already signed an agreement with Serbian companies Energoprojekt and Ratko Mitrovic on the joint work on the projects financed by the World Bank in Kazakhstan, Uganda, and other countries – Rade Nikolic, owner of Inter-kop, explains for eKapija.
According to Nikolic, the company will start doing its first job in Kazakhstan, worth 9 million euros, in late June, while even larger works in that country are expected in the future.

- Our companies have not had any significant references over the last 20 years because there have been no significant projects in the construction industry. Based on big projects we are implementing in association with the company Strabag and other companies, we expect to get some bigger contracts as an independent contractor in our country. Crisis in the construction industry is very serious in the past few years, but we expect to achieve better business results this year – says Nikolic.
The revenue of Inter-kop in 2010 amounted to EUR 80 million, while the projected revenue for this year is between 105 and 110 million euros.
- In the period between 2001 and 2008, that is, until the global economic crisis hit the industry, we invested EUR 45 million in movable and immovable property. Since 2006, 95 percent of the works we have been carrying out are for the state. Before that, we mainly worked for domestic and foreign investors. Although there are certain debts, we have to work because we don't have a better state. We had to work a lot at the time of the crisis, at low prices, but it was important to us to save the company – Nikolic stresses.
Inter-kop was founded in 1991 in Misar, near Sabac. The company and its associated partners employ over 1,800 people.
