President of the Republic of Srpska (RS) Milorad Dodik and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi agreed in Rome on Tuesday that the Italian government would
ensure financial support for the Srednja Drina (Middle Drina) hydro power project,
which is a joint project of RS, Italy and Serbia, and an investment
estimated to be worth EUR 830 million.
Serbian Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Milutin Mrkonjic was also staying in Italy where he agreed with representatives of the Italian government to sign the Middle Drina agreements during the meeting of the two governments in mid-June in Belgrade.
- Joint projects will be designed on the basis of a joint venture that is going to be formed - RS will be a co-owner of the joint venture - said Dodik.
The Srednja Drina project envisages the construction of a hydro power system, which should commence in two years. According to the suggested technical solution, three hydroelectric power plants should be built on the Drina - Dubravica, Tegare, and Rogacica, with the total installed power of 321.45 megawatts and the average annual electricity production capacity of about 1,200 GWh.
The Electric Power Company of the Republic of Srpska and the Electric Power Company of Serbia signed an agreement in September 2010 on the joint elaboration of a feasibility study for Srednja Drina hydroelectric power plants with a preliminary project design, after which a preliminary agreement on the cooperation in implementation of that project was concluded between EPS and the Italian company Seci Energia.
