The employees in the meatpacking industry Mitros from Sremska Mitrovica recently got the notification that the factory would stop working by the end of the year and this has now become reality, at least for a while. The owner of Mitros, Gierlinger Holding GmbH, has made the decision to stop the production in this meatpacking company.

– Based on a detailed analysis of the company’s operations, the management and the owners of Gierlinger Holding GmbH were forced to make the difficult decision to stop the production activities in the company MITROS FLEISCHWAREN DOO in Sremska Mitrovica. For the sake of transparency and being just to the employees, the employer has decided to notify the employees about this decision in the earliest phase – the company’s announcement says.

It is added that the concrete steps to be taken in order for the decision to be implemented, as well as the deadlines for their execution, would be defined with more precision in the coming period.

– This is an extremely difficult situation for both the employees and the management of the company and we understand that there’s a wide public interest in the events at MITROS FLEISCHWAREN DOO. However, at the moment, the employer is asking for patience and understanding regarding the situation which has led to this decision being made – the announcement says.

Let us remind that the factory opened at an official ceremony in 2016. The opening was attended by the then prime minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, who, following the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Mitros facility, said that the Government of Serbia had helped the Austrian investor with EUR 5.3 million “due to the 300 employees at the factory, but also around 700 people with whom the factory will sign agreements on the buyout of meat.”
