Serbia Becomes Member of ERTICO Partnership

The Supervisory Board of the international organization ERTICO approved the request of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia to join the ERTICO partnership as a member of the sector of national public organs, after the ministry filed a request for joining.

ERTICO – ITS Europe is a public-private partnership organization with over 120 members, connecting 8 different sectors across the ITS and Smart Mobility community, including service providers, suppliers, traffic and transport industry, research institutions and universities, public authorities, user organizations, connectivity industry as well as vehicle manufacturers, the ministry says on its website.

It connects four focus areas and cross-sector initiatives:

– Connected, Cooperative & Automated Mobility
– Clean & Eco-Mobility
– Urban Mobility
– Transport & Logistics
– Cross-sectoral projects

Considering that Serbia has long since started developing ITS on its road network and that it is currently in the procedure of developing the testing of autonomous vehicles, the membership in ERTICO is of great importance. The recently adopted amendments to the Law on Traffic Safety enable the testing and use of autonomous vehicles in Serbia, making the country a leader in this part of Europe.

Serbia’s membership in ERTICO realizes the possibility of connecting with other ERTICO partners, access to ERTICO activities and events, development of propositions of EU projects and promotion to the end of boosting ITS development, that is, the field of autonomous vehicles.

ERTICO facilitates cooperation between its partners in their ambition to improve innovations and the implementation of smart mobility solutions. Together with its partners, ERTICO develops, promotes and connects intelligent transport systems and services (ITS) through various activities, including European co-financed projects and platforms for innovations and international cooperation.

In the past two decades, ERTICO has run dozens of European projects, organized 38 ITS European and world congresses, grown from 15 to 120 partners, taken on a key role in public consultations and policies and established long-term relations with key partners in Europe, USA, Japan, Russia and China.
