DP World has opened a new vertical wharf in the Port of Novi Sad, and as announced, it invested EUR 8 million in its construction. As pointed out in the company’s press release, the Port of Novi Sad aims to become the first green port on the Danube by using renewable energy sources, and the opened wharf will strengthen the position of the terminal as one of the most important ports on the vital Danube trade route which flows from Germany to the Black Sea.

The 186 meters long wharf will offer a capacity increase of half a million tons, which makes it one of the biggest infrastructure upgrade projects in the port so far. The wharf will enable an easier, faster and safer loading of all types of goods and enable the Port of Novi Sad to be a leading trade hub on the Danube.

This latest project of upgrading the port is part of DP World’s investment of EUR 30 million in the region, with the aim of having the Port of Novi Sad become one of the best functioning ports in Serbia and on the Danube. It consists of several expansion and adaptation projects, including the new wharf, the procurement of new equipment, a grain silo with a capacity of 20,000 m3 and the reconstruction of the passenger terminal, which has hosted over 15,000 tourists who visit Serbia.

The company, as added, focuses on the development of new technologies and digitization so as to improve its operating efficiency, give priority to the safety of its employees, simplify the trade flow and visibility, while at the same time reducing the total costs for its clients.

Claudio Negreanu, the CEO of DP World Novi Sad, estimated that a safe and quick transport down the Danube to the Port of Constanta in Romania on the Black Sea placed the company at the head of transport and logistics operations in Serbia – and this new investment project will additionally solidify their position as a leading port on the Danube.

– We use out multimodal terminal in order to ensure that the food for the Vojvodina fields arrives to every corner of the plant: from a local farmer’s land to the global market. The Port of Novi Sad is a gate to the world market for all grain producers – Negreanu added.
