On the occasion of the marking of 20 years since the privatization of Duvanska Industrija Nis, the company Philip Morris International (PMI) has announced a new investment worth USD 100 million, which is a considerable step toward the realization of the company’s principal vision – “delivering a smoke-free future”.

With this investment, the factory in Nis, which has only produced traditional cigarettes so far, will also launch the production of a new line of smokeless tobacco products, which will be meant for export. Thanks to the new investment, around 200 new jobs will be created. With this investment, the total investments of Philip Morris in the operations in Serbia will exceed USD 1 billion, the press release says.

On that occasion, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Philip Morris Operations a.d. Nis (PMOP) and the Government of the Republic of Serbia.

On behalf of Philip Morris, the investment was announced by CEO Jacek Olczak:

– Today we are making a big step toward realizing our vision of the future in which cigarettes will be replaced by better alternatives. The PMOP factory in Nis is an excellent example of development and modernization leading to top business results through the implementation of modern technological solutions and innovations. Just like those who run this country, we believe that, in today’s world, progress can only be made by constant investments in innovations and the application of new technologies. We are grateful to the Government of Serbia for creating a good business environment which has enabled us to operate successfully here for 20 years, but also to continue investing – stated Jacek Olczak, the CEO of Philip Morris International, and pointed out that, with an adequate regulatory framework and support, by joining forces, we could deliver a smoke-free future.
