Director of EPS: Electricity Price Increase Not Certain, Decision to Be Made After Detailed Analysis

The acting director of Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), Dusan Zivkovic, said that the price of electricity was being carefully analyzed in order to determine whether it should be increased.

– Each time, the price of electricity is carefully analyzed. The electricity price increase did not happen just for the sake of it, that careful analysis made sure to secure the sustainability of operations, a safe and secure supply of consumers, to create the conditions for development, for investments – Zivkovic said for RTS.

The mild winter and the good hydrological situation have created, as he said, the conditions for the accumulations and the deposits to be full.

– In the accumulations, we have over 600 GWh, the deposits are at two million tons of coal, so that we can welcome the next winter ready – Zivkovic estimated.

When it comes to the production of coal, he said that it was at the planned level and that the goal was to maintain the coal deposits at a high level.

– In that sense, we don’t expect any challenges and we believe that it would be so – Zivkovic said and added that, for the time being, everything was being done from own resources.

He pointed out that now it was crucial to prepare for the winter in order to retain the maximum quantity of water in the accumulations and the maximum quantity of coal in the deposits.

He pointed out that the change of the legal form from a public enterprise into a joint-stock company has imposed a range of formal activities which need to happen so that the transfer period would pass with minimal consequences and so that conditions for the further unobstructed development of EPS would be created.

Regarding the fact that Milan Djordjevic, who leads one branch of the trade union, had requested an urgent meeting due to the appointment of Miodrag Rankovic, a representative of another branch of the trade union, to the Supervisory Board, Zivkovic said that he had been in EPS for a long time and that he had good communication with the employees.

– My door has always been open to all the employees and I will make sure for things to stay that way. My goal in this situation is for all employees to be able to develop professionally, to develop their careers and advance and, in that sense, I see all the mentioned influential sides as partners in this process – said Zivkovic.

When asked whether there were surplus workers, Zivkovic said that the aim was to keep all the employees, all experts.

– Layoffs are a topic that has been present in the public for a long time now, but I wouldn’t see things that way. The aim is to keep the employees, the experts, quality workers, to make space for them to develop professionally and to progress – said Zivkovic.

He said that all the members of the new Supervisory Board “have great careers and are great experts.”

– My first step was to establish good cooperation with all of them, because that knowledge that they have will help us to go through this period of transition from a public enterprise into a joint-stock company the right way, because I believe that EPS should be a modern company, that it should change, and they are truly there to help – Zivkovic said.

According to him, the priority of EPS is green energy. When asked whether he will apply for the position of the director, Zivkovic said that he would try to contribute to EPS as much as possible.

– That’s an interesting subject, I certainly believe that I can help EPS a lot based on my experience, which also entails contests – Zivkovic said.
