Sapic: Continuation of Construction of Bus Station in New Belgrade, Full Moving Within 6 Months

The works on the construction of the new bus station in New Belgrade are expected to continue from Monday, said the mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic.

According to him, within six months, the bus station will be finally and fully moved to New Belgrade.

– We have had a difficult year and many difficult talks which were not easy at all. In the meantime, the management of BAS changed and decided to have a slightly different policy than the one before, and with the help of the credits provided to them by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the conditions have met for the works to continue from Monday. The City of Belgrade still has to do a small traffic route within the station, but we couldn’t start the works until we reached that phase that we should be in three to four months from now, if everything goes as planned – Sapic pointed out, as reported by Beoinfo.

As he added, the station could reach its full capacity as soon as 2024.

– If this happens, we expect to enter 2024 with a new bus station in its full capacity. Thanks to the completion of the ring road around Belgrade, the new bus station is getting its full purpose, because passenger buses will no longer pass through the city center – said the mayor, who added that, with the construction of the new bus station and the moving of the flea market, that part of New Belgrade would get a whole new look.

Let us remind that the Assembly of the company Beogradska Autobuska Stanica (BAS) adopted the decision to approve for BAS to handle property of a high value, based on the decision of the Government of Serbia of June 1, 2023, and for the purpose of taking out an investment loan through the Development Fund, worth RSD 915 million.

The proceeds will be used for the construction of the new bus station in Block 42 in New Belgrade, and this company submitted to the Ministry of Economy, in late May, a request for taking out a loan for the completion of the realization of Phase I of the construction of the bus station complex.

The foundation stone for the new bus station was laid down in 2018, around EUR 20 million has been invested so far, and the station area with the platforms and the foundation of the station building has been built.
