After the meeting with representatives of Vinci at the Belgrade Airport, Vesic said that he had come there because he had wanted to see for himself what the situation was like, primarily in the baggage sorting area, where there had been the most problems.
He said that around 15,000 pieces of luggage went through the Nikola Tesla Airport each day and reminded that he had requested the concession partner, Vinci, to secure more employees so that the service would improve.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Vinci, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Civil Aviation Directorate, the airport, which controls the concession, and Air Serbia.
– We talked about what will be done in the coming days so that the situation would be monitored from day to day and be normal, that is, so that the passengers would get the service they have paid for – Vesic said.
The minister said that an operating team had been formed, consisting of representatives of each of said institutions and companies and that it would meet several times a day and consider the situation at every moment, so as to see what they could do to make the situation better. He added that the team was led by the deputy minister in charge of inspection affairs, Ivan Divac.
Vesic said that he had notified the representatives of Vinci that the Civil Aviation Directorate would open the tender for at least two new land operators in the coming days in line with the concession agreement.
– We believe that, with the arrival of new operators, we can enable the competition to be bigger and a better provision of these services – Vesic said and added that there were plenty of different land operators in other Serbian airports too and that the Nikola Tesla Airport would not be any different.
He also said that it had been discussed at the meeting how to quickly change the regulations in order to enable the setting up of gates for electronic passport control for arrivals in the passport control area.
– Vinci has promised to open another three lines at the arrivals section in the next two weeks, and I asked them to do it even faster, which means that the crowding will reduce and that more people will be able to pass the passport control more quickly – said Vesic.
He asked the representatives of Vinci to introduce security guards, who would help the queuing passengers reach the first available counter and thereby show that they care about the passengers.
Vesic said that there would be meetings at the airport every day at 8 a.m. and that they would make sure how many people they have every day, because, according to him, apparently, without the help of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which he especially thanks for their huge efforts to normalize the situation, as well as the Civil Aviation Directorate and Air Serbia, people won’t be able to be satisfied this summer.
– Unlike other European airports, where there are also problems, our aim is for things to go in line with the procedure at the Nikola Tesla Airport, for people to be able to quickly finish the procedures they need to finish in line with the regulations and for them to get the kind of service from the airport that they have paid for by buying the ticket – Vesic said.
