Negotiations with the Government of North Macedonia about the joint candidacy for the extension of the railroad from Nis to Presevo are in progress, said the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure, Goran Vesic, at a panel within the EU Opportunity Week. On that occasion, he pointed out that there were plans and ideas for joint candidacies of Serbia and countries from the region for securing funds so that projects such as roads, railroads, but also integrated border crossings, would be realized, according to the website of the ministry.

– Our plan was to do our 135 kilometers from Nis to Presevo. We are now entering a project with the Government of North Macedonia, which has around 50 kilometers of its own to Skopje, because that railroad will make sense if it’s Nis-Skopje. It would be good for it to go to Presevo too, but the point is to connect big cities. It will be the first joint project of North Macedonia and Serbia, a European project, where we will connect Nis and Skopje, that is, Skopje with Belgrade, Novi Sad and Budapest – Vesic said.

As he added, when it comes to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the agreement is for Serbia and BiH to jointly apply for the project of the reconstruction of the Belgrade-Sarajevo railroad and that will be the first joint project of Serbia and BiH since Dayton.

When it comes to Bulgaria, the minister said, a new railroad is being prepared, which will connect the Port of Vidin with Zajecar and Negotin.

– We have agreed with Bulgaria about a joint candidacy and trying to get funds for that railroad. The reconstruction of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad railroad is to start. It remains to establish a connection with Romania. We will do the Belgrade-Vrsac highway toward the Romanian border and the reconstruction of the railroad. When it comes to Montenegro, what remains to be done is to reconstruct a part of the Belgrade-Bar railroad – Vesic concluded.

He pointed out that the fast railroad to Budapest was being built at that moment.
