Chinese Factory of Refractory Materials Punai Opens in Kraljevo – Second Investment Phase Also Announced

At one of the most modern factories in Europe, with a high degree of automation and latest-generation robots – Punai DOO Kraljevo, the production of refractory materials has begun. The ribbon-cutting ceremony officially marked the beginning of production at the former Magnohrom factory, so the tradition of the production of refractory bricks in that city has continued.

The reconstruction of the factory in Kraljevo began in 2022. According to the general director of Punai Serbia, Fan Yun Ling, the plan of the construction of the factory is executed in two phases. In the first one, production capacities of 30,000 tons of products made of magnesia carbon bricks and 10,000 tons of unshaped products are being built.

In the second phase, production capacities of 20,000 tons of magnesia carbon bricks and 10,000 tons of unshaped products will be built. After everything is put into operation, an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of magnesia carbon bricks and 20,000 tons of unshaped products will be reached. The products are mostly meant for purchasers in Europe from the high-temperature industry.

As the representatives of the Chinese company emphasized, the first phase of the project, which is completed, is an investment of a total of EUR 10.8 million.

After both phases are fully finished and the production line is put into operation, they will employ more than 30 workers from the local populace and contribute to the local economy with around EUR 70 million of industrial production value.

Milan Bjelic, a co-founder of the Punai corporation, believes that, for Serbia this could mean the return of the once big company Magnohrom to the global market of refractory materials.

The mayor of Kraljevo, Predrag Terzic, reminded of the big projects realized in Serbia in partnership with China and said that the opening of the factory was another proof of the solid friendship between the two countries.

– Following the construction of the Borca-Zemun bridge, the construction of the Belgrade-Novi Sad-Budapest railroad, the privatization of the Smederevo Steel Mill, RTB Bor, the steel-strength friendship of the People’s Republic of China and Serbia is once again proven in Kraljevo with the opening of the Punai factory. The cooperation between Serbia and China is very significant – the mayor said.
