The minister of mining and energy, Dubravka Djedovic, has stated that she hopes that electricity and gas prices will not change by the end of the year.

– We should be realistic and, in the coming years, we should think about how to achieve adequate prices, while still having them be affordable to the citizens and the economy – she said for Insajder.

The minister said that, in 2023, three times as many funds had been set aside from the budget for energy-vulnerable purchasers.

Djedovic said that the price of electricity in Serbia was among the three cheapest ones in Europe.

When asked how far the transformation of Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) from a public enterprise into a joint-stock company had progressed, she answered that significant steps had been made in the past eight months.

– There is no mystery there, or any hidden agendas of the state, but a clear and decisive intention to improve the operations of our biggest public enterprise – she said.

Djedovic said that the JSC form would give EPS much more freedom regarding market-efficient operations, to the company’s benefit.
