Association of Entrepreneurs and Business People of Serbia: Nobody Is Responding to the Request to Suppress Illegal Employment

At the initiative titled “Do Not Close”, which aims to improve business conditions so that companies’ legal operations would be more profitable than illegal employment, nobody has responded except the Ministry of Economy, announced the Association of Entrepreneurs and Business People of Serbia.

– The associations, which gather a large number of local entrepreneurs and business people throughout Serbia, addressed the competent institutions in February 2023 with the initiative to not close business entities for the slightest mistake, and in six months, only the Ministry of Economy responded, saying that it was not in charge of this issue, which is obviously an issue in the field of economy and local entrepreneurship – the press release says.

As emphasized, the initiative has been supported by over 20 professional associations, eight parliamentary groups and the wide public, however, the Ministry of Finance, through the Tax Administration, has continued the bad practice of closing numerous legal, registered business entities using “disputable” criteria. It is added that “the Tax Administration barely suppresses unregistered and illegal sale of goods and services,” and foreign investors “are substantially subsidized with the money generated by the local economy.”
