The minister of energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic, has stated that the newly appointed Supervisory Board of Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) will appoint the CEO and that a public contest will be opened, for which interested candidates can apply.

Djedovic said on TV Prva that the appointment of the CEO of EPS would no longer be the task of the Government of Serbia.

She reminded that, in March 2023, EPS had changed the legal form from a public enterprise into a joint-stock company and that, two days before, the Supervisory Board of EPS had been appointed.

– This is not a privatization, but a facilitation of business operations. When you are a public enterprise, there are limitations when it comes to employment or salaries and you need the government’s consent when making decisions. We wanted to modernize, that is, depoliticize, the management of EPS – Djedovic said.

She emphasized that EPS was a closed-type JSC, which means that the state remains the owner and that there won’t be any small shareholders, but that the pre-conditions of management are left to the Supervisory Board.

– There is plenty of incorrect information in the public, but I hope that, in a few years, we will see the benefits of this kind of functioning and that EPS will be an example for other companies how to reform themselves. The Supervisory Board consists of professionals from the private and public sectors and we have three members from Norway as well – Dejdovic said.

She said that the role of the Supervisory Board was to plan how to make Serbia energy independent, to plan the production capacities, a better and more efficient execution of the plans, so that Serbia is not dependent on a single supplier, the switching from coal to cleaner energy sources and better work conditions and salaries for workers.
