The prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, has stated that the Draft Law on Company Management, which the opposition believes enables the privatization of public enterprises and national parks, is one of the three key recommendations of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Brnabic said on TV Pink that it was also envisaged in the Strategy of State Ownership and Management of Business Entities, adopted in 2021.

– That is one of the three key recommendations of the IMF, which is defined by the basic postulations that the government adopted at the end of 2020. It was up for a public discussion for a month, at the beginning of this year – Brnabic said.

The Law on Public Property which is currently in effect, she added, defines that natural resources and goods in general use cannot be alienated and that they can instead by only and exclusively publicly owned.

On the other hand, Brnabic says that the Law on Privatization already proscribes that property in companies and other legal persons, including public enterprises, can be privatized.

– If we wanted to sell it, we could have already sold it – Brnabic said.
